Who’s That Girl? Kim vs. Rachel

Every week Amil Niazi styles the Robber mannequins and then takes you on a sartorial spirit quest, finding the stories buried in the silk and wool. Each week, check out her modern fairytales and then vote for your favourite!

It’s so weird that Kim’s family keeps asking her why she’s single because hello, as if she even cares about society’s notion of what a woman should or shouldn’t be. Do you really think someone who mixes prints so boldly and with such abandon is concerned about conforming to our western culture’s patriarchal view of romance? Kim isn’t trying to have it all, she’s just trying to get by with a little bit of dignity, a few less split ends and a lot of style. So pass the gravy and mind your own business Aunt Louise!

Show your family who’s Kim in this Olga blouse by Minimarket ($255), Karen Walker shirred waist skirt ($249 $189), and Cursive Design color theory necklace ($70).

Look at this cozy bitch! You know when your Grandma forces you to wear a”nice” dress cause it’s the holidays but you don’t even really like Christmas so you try and find something comfortable AND appropriate but it’s all so itchy and wool and hot and you’re like, GET ME OUT OF HERE! But then you remember that silky something in your closet and then you see your favourite sweater peeking out of a drawer and pow! next thing you know you’re sliding across the wood floors in your socks with your sisters, belly full of treats like it was 1999. That’s just how Rachel always rolls!

Rip off Rachel’s easy steeze with this Dunderdon lambswool striped sweater ($189 $145), Karen Walker frills & spills dress ($399 $299), and Maude & Colette sterling silver love knot necklace ($99).

Yesterday, I got the biggest poinsettia ever at work – like, EVER – and I thought maybe it was from a secret admirer. It wasn’t. I was disappointed for a minute but then I realized I still had time to let you know what I really want! So, Secret Admirer(s), this one’s for you!

Let’s not play games. You can show me how much you care by showing up at my place with this MHL toggle overcoat – it’s classic and super cozy (like our relationship?). Maybe put two tickets to somewhere in New England in the pocket?

Two tickets to Vermont and this Steven Alan Cashmere Striped Sweater –  you really get me! Cause that’s where you’re from – oh, and your whole family will be there.  Um, ok. But there will be mulled wine, right?

Oh, we’re going out for dinner? To the country club? With your parents? No problem, I didn’t need any advance notice because I’m already wearing that Filippa K Tailored Dress you bought me for Christmas. It’s fine. I said it’s fine.

This tiny box is FOR ME? Aren’t we moving a LITTLE FAST? I mean, that whole thing with your parents… well, let’s not talk about it. Just open it? Well.. ok… I guess…. Oh, Species by the Thousands Rock Stud Earrings! THANKYOUILOVETHEM!!!

You don’t even have time to answer the question because someone else has pulled you away to “OMG” at your dress.

How to change it up:
DAYTIME: Opaque tights, throw a pretty silk blouse underneath, wear with flats and a cardigan!
NIGHTTIME: Slightly sheer tights, little booties or heels, lipstick!

Cursive Design Tiny Monument Necklace, Crystal, $95.
Steven Alan Maggie Dress, $365.
Gabriela Artigas 14K Rosegold Faceted Hexagon Ring, $110.

Holiday Wishlist: Anabela’s Picks

Leave it to Anabela of Fieldguided to have the dreamiest Holiday Wishlist ever!

Anabela’s “Winter Goth” essentials holiday wishlist!

Karen Walker Frills and Spills dress, $349.
I like to think of this dress as “the one a bunch of my friends fought over to wear to my wedding (whether they knew it or not).” The lucky winner was Kristin, who looked amazing in it in her super-tall heels! Perfect party dress.

Samantha Pleet Shadow Cloak, $625, $315
I can’t even count how many times I’ve gone into the store to try this one and stare at myself in it in the mirror (and maybe spin around in it a little bit. Maybe). I should just get it already.

Rittenhouse Backwards Silk Blouse, $329, $245
I can’t even bring myself to try this on because I know I’ll fall in love with it and buy it and then I’ll IMMEDIATELY spill a cup of coffee down the front of it and get sriracha sauce on the sleeve at the elbow. Unrequited love forever with this blouse.

Rachel Cameron 2013 Zodiac Poster, $40.
This would look amazing on any number of walls in my apartment.

Good Night Day Elora checked toque, $60; Falconwright clutch, $56; Species by the Thousands Moonphase earrings in brass, $99.
All the most adorable accessories for my head, ears, and crook of arm!

Sam’s list here!
Taylor’s list here!

Holiday Wishlists: Erin’s picks

I guess SOMEbody has to go after Sam, might as well be me!

I’ll start off by cheating because I’m currently wearing this sweater, but it’s the warmest, simplest, non-itchiest cardigan I’ve ever had, and ours is a beautiful dark grey that goes with everything. I would honestly love a back-up one. Filippa K lambswool cardigan, $229 $175.

I don’t have anything like this Harvest Moon necklace by Cursive Design ($60), but I should, right?

My friend Alex and I tried these dresses on the other day and they looked hilarious on us BUT I feel like with some layering and accessories they would be really great! Sort of long underwear / old-timey figure skating vibes. Creatures of Comfort Carina dress, $325 $245.

If you know me you know I love a good men’s shirt, and this one is VELVET, come on. Dana Lee velvet overdyed shirt in navy, $225.

I’ll take any of the Strathcona Stockings, please, but this fruit print really speaks to me. $36 each.

Who’s That Girl? Cynthia vs. Jess

Every week Amil Niazi styles the Robber mannequins and then takes you on a sartorial spirit quest, finding the stories buried in the silk and wool. Each week, check out her modern fairytales and then vote for your favourite!

CynthiaOhhhhhhhhkaaaaay who invited Cynthia to the party? Everywhere she goes it’s always drama, drama, drama. EVEN THOUGH she always says things like, “I don’t want any drama.” Yeah right, Cynthia, then why did you wear a cape to a Christmas party? Thing is though, urgh so annoying to admit but, Cynthia is actually really good at her marketing job so respect and she always has gum in her purse and is it weird that I don’t even think it’s weird that she still uses a Blackberry? Damn you Cynthia! I love you I hate you I love you I hate you. Honestly though, roll up to your office holiday party in a long, wool cape and it’s like, “No Johnson, you have the report on MY desk in the morning. Cynthia out!”

Show Johnson who’s boss in this Helena dress by Steven Alan ($365), Erin Templeton obi belt ($50), and Samantha Pleet Shadow cloak ($625, now $315).

Spirit Animal: Melanie Griffith at the end of Working Girl
Power Song: Sisters are Doing it for Themselves – Eurythmics

jessHey Jess! So glad you could make it tonight. I know you usually hate going to parties and putting on an outfit when you could just be drinking your whiskey at home in peace, but like, you look super cute! I love your hair like that. Did you get new bangs? Do you want something to drink? Jameson’s? Oh umm, I’m not sure that I have – oh cool you brought your own, yeah no cool. Oh, ha, I see you’ve already had some hahaha no that’s cool, like obviously you’re gonna have some before you come. I think it’s so cool that you brought like, half a bottle. Ice? No? Very cool. Hey let me introduce you to my friend Marnie, you’re gonna – okay, yeah totally I’ll talk to you later! Ha okay thanks for coming Jess, you look so great!

God Jess is so like, cazh.

Play it cool like Jess and bring the vibes to the party in this Georgia dress by Wood Wood ($295), Steven Alan seaside parka ($399, now $299), Laura Lombardi Cortona necklace ($85), and Gabriela Artigas triple squares necklace ($110).
